Social Distortion

Social Distortion is a discourse devoted to the effects of socialization upon identity. Virtually every culture casts its members into specific gender roles, familial roles, peer roles, ethnic roles, race roles, religious roles, political roles, academic roles, vocational roles, economic roles, and age roles. Yet these are not cemented to the soul. Neither labeling, stereotypes, nor stigmatizations can limit one’s potential. A self-actualizer realizes that these restraints are circumscribed by what we believe, and not necessarily by what is true. Hence, only those which see through these phantasms can escape their psychological fetters.
